Rick Parfitt Jnr wins this years Sunoco Challenge and a place in the BMW Endurance Challenge support race at the 2018 Rolex 24 At Daytona which takes place in January. The event in Florida is the opening round of 2018’s IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge.
The British GT champion beat Jessica Hawkins and Matt Hammond who were both in close contention but failed to score the necessary points in the Mini Challenge Cooper Championship last weekend at Snetterton.
Parfitt Jnr is the first amateur driver to win the competition and the first driver to win with a current champion as his co-driver, Seb Morris, his Team Parker Racing team mate having won the competition last year.
The BMW Endurance Challenge is a four hour race which sees a varied grid of GT4’s from Ford Mustangs to Maserati Gran Turismo’s and also runs a Street Tuner class where the likes of Mini’s and Nissan Altimas rub shoulders with Porsche Cayman and Mazda MX5’s.
The race takes part at Daytona International Speedway on January 26th.
